monoliths is study in making public spaces, even ones in harsh environmental conditions, an intimate personal experience. It is an interactive sound installation that also provides provides shelter. Transducers pick up sounds of participants and ambient noises. The signals are processed then mixed with composed electroacoustic music -- at least when the electronics aren't irratated by playa dust. The result is an ambient acoustical space reflecting its surroundings, while offering respite from the sun and wind.
